Hi, I’m Mel.
I LOVE photography and especially newborn art…that’s it, that’s me.
But this is an ‘About’ page and apparently, I need to say more. So here goes.
I started Kaptured! Photography 20 years ago, which makes me the ‘original gangster’ of newborn photography in Tamworth. I saw back then there was a real need for it. The photographers in town were, for the most part, wedding and family portrait photographers. So with that knowledge I decided to really hone my skills and focus on newborns.
To be honest, I didn’t think I was that good in the beginning! But my friends and family begged to differ and encouraged me to consider photography as a career. So I took myself off to MANY photography workshops and I learned from the best in the business. I drank it all in, came back to Tamworth and practised and cried. And practised and cried. And practised some more. How can you be great at anything without practising, learning and growing?
I heard someone say once, ‘you don’t learn from your wins, it’s your mistakes that make you great’.
I believe that.
Initially, working with babies was not easy. But with perseverance it became like second nature to me. I often say, ‘I don’t know much but I do know babies’. Creating pieces of art with live little beings will never get old for me.
I love that the pictures I take of a client’s new, shiny, tiny and completely precious little one, will give them lasting memories and joy for the rest of their lives and generations after them.
I love that I can be a part of someone’s history. Their first images, professionally taken, to look back on as they grow through their teens, young adulthood and even into their old age. These pictures will always be precious.
I love that in 100 years when I no longer exist, there will still be proof here on earth that I existed because of what I created…my art.
And finally, I love that I am good at what I do! I’m proud to say the learning and experience I’ve gained over the past 20 years has paid off enormously. The proof is not only in the quality of my art, but in the many families I’ve worked with who will attest to the high standard of my work, my professionalism and expertise in my field.
